Bypass version check when installing SharePoint CU

by zebsadiq 5. December 2013 02:13

I came across an issue when trying to install the June 2013 cumulative update for SharePoint 2010. I kept getting the "The expected version of the product was not found on the system" error whenever I tried to run the installer even though I had SharePoint 2010 service pack 2 installed.

The June 2013 CU was initially release in June 2013. Some issues were discovered with it and it was rereleased in July 2013. In between, I believe service pack 2 was released sometime before the July 2013 rerelease. Therefore there is a bit of confusion with what version was released when. Going by Todd Klindt’s version list, the June 2013 update was released after service pack 2 (judging by the version number).

Please do not use the technique bellow unless you know what you’re doing and that you are sure about what version needs installed on your current SharePoint environment. I suspect that the technique bellow is not supported.

By passing in ‘PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1’ as a parameter to the update package, you can bypass the package trying to check for a specific version of SharePoint being installed. It is handy to use for odd situations like the one I came across.

Examples:

SharePoint Foundation

ubersts2010-kb9999999-fullfile-x64-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

SharePoint Server

ubersrv2010-kb9999999-fullfile-x64-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

Hope this helps!
